Warm Up To The Butt

Location

Starts in Taupo and finishes in Fairlie.

Registration and briefing are in Taupo early on Wednesday morning. Planned arrival in Fairlie is approximately 13:00 on Monday, the day of the Dusty Butt registration evening.

The ride

Started in 2018 as a prequel to The Dusty Butt so the ride to the Butt becomes a 6 day / 5 night adventure in itself.

Limited to 12 riders. The route varies each year and is described as off the beaten track, with 6 riding days from Taupo to Fairlie.

Riders must navigate using a GPS. Detailed GPS downloads will be provided closer to the start date.

Fuel range should be about 280 km per tank, or riders need to carry extra fuel in a NZ standards compliant fuel container.

Riders should carry their own toolkit and be able to do basic repairs and maintenance. Spare tubes are recommended as punctures can be common.

• Entry fee: $725
• Includes 6 days of adventure riding from Taupo to Fairlie
• Includes GPS route downloads
• Includes all land access fees and permitting
• Includes 1 night's accommodation at a high country station with dinner and breakfast

Accommodation and meals

Twin-share accommodation is pre-booked for 5 nights and is expected to cost about $80-$120 per night.

Most meals are pay-as-you-go. Accommodation will either provide meals or be a short walk to a pub or takeaway, except when staying on a station.
